Learn MoreTorabhaig Taigh Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the Isle of Skye distillery's first permanent core expression — a Madeira-influenced peated single malt pitched as an approachable, everyday introduction to the island's smoke.
Process & Profile
Taigh — pronounced "Tie," the Scottish Gaelic word for "house" — is crafted in small batches and matured in first-fill and refill bourbon casks with an addition of Madeira casks, then bottled at 46% ABV with no chill-filtration and no added colour. It comes from Torabhaig, one of only two single malt distilleries on Skye and the first legal distillery built there since Talisker, operating out of a restored farmstead on the Sleat peninsula. The name is fitting: where the earlier Legacy Series chronicled the young distillery chapter by chapter, this is the permanent "house" pour meant to define the everyday Torabhaig character.
On the nose, seaside embers and flint smoke sit against earthy woodland notes, with baked apple pie, maple syrup, and gentle raisin richness, plus a dusting of clove, cinnamon, and cereal biscuit.
The palate is light to medium-bodied, soft smoke wrapped in vanilla custard, toasted almond, and sweet dried fruit, all carried on a smooth, faintly oily texture.
The finish is warming and moderate, the smoke settling into sweet spice and dried fruit.
What makes it stand out is its role in the range: the Madeira-cask addition softens and sweetens the coastal peat, making the release the gentlest, most food-friendly way into Torabhaig — a genuine gateway to peated whisky rather than a challenge to seasoned smoke-hunters.
Serve neat in a Glencairn; its lighter body pairs happily with smoked salmon or a wedge of hard cheese.
