Learn MoreTaylor Fladgate Sentinels Vintage Port is a limited-production Vintage Port created from selected parcels across four historic Taylor Fladgate estates in the Pinhão Valley. The latest release is the 2024 vintage, a deeply colored, structured Port combining concentrated blackcurrant, dark plum, ripe cherry, damson, floral notes, herbs, and fine tannins. Bottled at 20% ABV, Sentinels offers the power and longevity expected of serious Vintage Port while emphasizing the freshness, precision, and elegance traditionally associated with Taylor Fladgate.
Sentinels is built around a meticulous process of parcel selection, with Taylor Fladgate choosing individual vineyard plots from its historic Pinhão Valley properties rather than producing the wine from a single quinta. The blend brings together fruit from Quinta de Terra Feita, Quinta do Junco, Quinta da Casa Nova, and Quinta da Eira Velha.
These four estates lie within the historic heart of the Douro, and all are associated with the original 1756 demarcation of the Port wine region. The name “Sentinels” refers to the granite boundary pillars known as marcos de feitoria, which historically marked vineyard areas recognized for the highest-quality wines.
The 2024 wine incorporates traditional Douro vineyard material, including varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa, and Tinta Cão, alongside traditional mixed plantings. Taylor Fladgate’s Vintage Port production continues to emphasize classic Douro methods, including fermentation in traditional granite lagares, foot treading, and co-fermentation where appropriate.
The 2024 Sentinels is only the third bottling of the wine. Although Sentinels was initially conceived as a Vintage Port to showcase Taylor’s Pinhão estates in years without a full classic Taylor declaration, the exceptional 2024 harvest led the house to release a small quantity of Sentinels alongside its 2024 Classic Vintage Port.
In the glass, the 2024 shows a deep obsidian-purple core with a narrow mulberry-colored rim. The nose is intensely expressive, with blackcurrant, woodland berries, dark plum, ripe cherry, and black cherry, accompanied by delicate rose-petal, lavender, and herbal nuances.
The palate is powerful yet remarkably fresh, with concentrated damson, plum, blackberry, and cassis supported by vibrant acidity and finely structured tannins. Floral and herbal notes add lift, preventing the dense fruit from feeling heavy and giving the wine a precise, energetic character.
The finish is long, focused, and persistent, carrying dark plum, black cherry, damson, herbs, subtle spice, and floral notes. Additional bottle aging should bring increasing complexity, with secondary notes of chocolate, licorice, dried fruit, and savory spice emerging over time.
What makes Taylor Fladgate Sentinels Vintage Port particularly compelling is its combination of four historic Pinhão Valley estates, parcel-by-parcel selection, traditional Douro varieties, limited production, and genuine Vintage Port aging potential. The 2024 release was produced in just 2,700 nine-liter cases, making it a relatively scarce expression within Taylor Fladgate’s portfolio.
Serve at approximately 16–18°C / 60–64°F. Like other serious Vintage Ports, Sentinels pairs beautifully with Stilton and other blue cheeses, dark chocolate, walnut desserts, mature hard cheeses, and rich after-dinner dishes. As the wine matures and develops natural sediment, decanting is recommended before serving.
What is Taylor Fladgate Sentinels Port?

The latest 2024 vintage is bottled at 20% ABV in a 750ml format. Production was limited to 2,700 nine-liter cases, and the wine is made from traditional Douro varieties and mixed vineyard plantings from Taylor Fladgate’s Pinhão Valley estates.

Serve it around 60–64°F / 16–18°C with blue cheese, mature cheese, dark chocolate desserts, walnut tart, or other rich after-dinner dishes. Mature bottles should be decanted to separate the wine from natural sediment.
What makes Taylor Fladgate Sentinels Port special?
Its distinction comes from parcel-selected fruit from four historic Taylor estates, classic Vintage Port production, extremely limited quantities, and the ability to combine immediate fruit purity with decades of aging potential. The name itself honors the historic granite markers that once stood guard over the Douro’s highest-ranked vineyard areas.
