Penelope Cigar Sessions Chapter 2 American Whiskey — Tasting Notes

Appearance:
Deep amber to dark mahogany in the glass, with a rich, concentrated appearance that matches its high-proof, six-year-old profile. Slow, substantial legs hint at the whiskey’s weight and texture. The Whisky Study

Nose:
Bold and immediately expressive, opening with toasted oak, dark caramel, and brown sugar, followed by leather, cocoa, roasted malt, and warm baking spices. As it rests, vanilla, charred wood, pepper, and a subtle tobacco-like earthiness emerge. The 117.4 proof gives the aromas considerable intensity without completely masking the sweeter corn and malt character. Penelope Bourbon

Palate:
Full-bodied, rich, and assertive. Charred brown sugar and dark caramel lead, followed by sweet corn, creamy malt, cocoa, seasoned oak, and black pepper. The 19% rye component provides a firm spicy backbone, while malted barley adds a softer, creamy texture. Layers of barrel char, dark chocolate, roasted grain, and baking spice build through the mid-palate, giving the whiskey enough structure and intensity to stand alongside a medium- to full-bodied cigar. Penelope Bourbon

Finish:
Long, warming, and persistent. Dark chocolate, seasoned oak, peppery spice, toasted malt, and caramelized sweetness linger, with touches of leather and barrel char developing toward the end. Despite the high proof, the finish retains enough sweetness to balance the drier oak and spice. Penelope Bourbon

Overall:
Penelope Cigar Sessions: Chapter 2 is a powerful, darker-style American whiskey built around oak, caramel, cocoa, malt, spice, and leather-like depth. At 117.4 proof (58.7% ABV) and aged 6 years, it is considerably robust, but the underlying corn sweetness and creamy malt keep the profile balanced. Created with Alec Bradley specifically to complement medium- to full-bodied cigars, it works particularly well as a slow after-dinner pour, either neat or with a few drops of water to open the chocolate, caramel, and oak notes. The mash bill is 69% corn, 19% rye, and 12% malted barley. Penelope Bourbon
