Frequently Asked Questions

What is the story behind Fable & Folly Bourbon Whiskey?

Fable & Folly is crafted by Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co., incorporating the last remaining stocks of Barterhouse, Forged Oak, and various Rhetoric releases. These bourbons are masterfully blended with aged rye and corn whiskies to create a unique whiskey that harmonizes creamy richness, spice, and fruit-forward sweetness.

What is the proof and alcohol content of this whiskey?

The whiskey is 90 proof, with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 45%.

How would you describe the flavor profile?

Fable & Folly offers a rich, complex flavor profile that begins with a burst of spice, transitioning into creamy sweetness with notes of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, syrup, and fruit. Subtle hints of dried fruit, mint, and spices complement the tasting experience, finishing smoothly with leather and faint tobacco undertones.

Is Fable & Folly a bourbon or just a whiskey?

Though Fable & Folly incorporates bourbons like Barterhouse and Forged Oak into its blend, it is labeled as "whiskey" rather than "bourbon." This suggests the inclusion of other whiskey styles or elements, such as aged rye or blending materials, in the proprietary mix.

Where is this whiskey sourced and produced?

The whiskey originates from Kentucky and other undisclosed distilleries in Indiana and Kentucky. It is bottled by the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co. in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

What is the significance of the 14-year age statement?

The age statement reflects the youngest component in the blend, ensuring that the whiskey has complex, well-matured flavors developed over at least 14 years in barrels.

What is the price of Fable & Folly?

The MSRP for this whiskey was set at approximately $150 upon release, though prices may vary depending on the retailer.

What makes this release unique compared to other whiskeys?

Fable & Folly blends rare, aged bourbon stocks that were otherwise "orphaned," creating a one-of-a-kind whiskey. Its artistic label, combining symbols of Barterhouse (fox), Rhetoric (hummingbird), and Forged Oak (stag), visually represents the origins of the blend.

How should Fable & Folly be enjoyed?

This whiskey is best enjoyed neat, or with a small amount of water to open up its rich and layered flavors. Its nuanced character also makes it suitable for savoring in a well-curated whiskey tasting.

Is Fable & Folly part of a larger series?

Yes, Fable & Folly is part of the Orphan Barrel collection, a series of limited-edition whiskeys that focus on bottling and reviving rare or forgotten whiskey stocks.

    Fable and Folly

I have drank several Orphan Barrel whiskeys. I really enjoy Fable and Folly. Not as good as Barterhouse, but also much less expensive.
