Kellerei Bozen Pinot Noir is an elegant, alpine expression of Pinot Noir from Alto Adige DOC in northern Italy. Produced by Cantina Bolzano/Kellerei Bozen from selected hillside vineyards around Renon and Oberleitach, the wine combines bright red fruit, floral lift, delicate spice, and silky tannins in a refined, medium-bodied style. The current 2025 vintage is bottled at 13% ABV and highlights the freshness and finesse that Pinot Noir can achieve in Alto Adige’s elevated, well-ventilated vineyards.

Process & Profile

Pinot Noir, known locally as Pinot Nero or Blauburgunder, originated in Burgundy but has been cultivated in Alto Adige for more than a century. Kellerei Bozen sources its fruit from warm, well-ventilated hillside vineyards on the Renon and in Oberleitach, planted at approximately 500 to 750 meters above sea level. These elevated sites help preserve freshness and aromatic definition while allowing the grapes to achieve full ripeness.

Harvest generally takes place in September. The grapes are fermented in stainless-steel tanks, preserving the purity of the fruit, while a portion of the wine is matured briefly in wooden casks to add softness, structure, and subtle complexity without overwhelming Pinot Noir’s delicate character.

In the glass, Kellerei Bozen Pinot Noir displays a rich ruby-red color. The bouquet is expressive and elegant, opening with red cherry, raspberry, and plum, followed by delicate floral aromas of violet and a subtle spicy accent of licorice.

On the palate, the wine is fruit-driven, smooth, and medium-bodied, with ripe red cherry and berry flavors supported by gentle plum, floral notes, light spice, and restrained oak. Fine, delicate tannins give the wine enough structure for the table while maintaining Pinot Noir’s naturally graceful texture.

The finish is fresh and balanced, carrying lingering red fruit, violet, subtle spice, and soft tannins. With approximately 2.2 g/L residual sugar, the wine remains dry and focused, emphasizing freshness and varietal character rather than sweetness.

What makes Kellerei Bozen Pinot Noir especially appealing is the combination of high-altitude Alto Adige vineyards, stainless-steel fermentation, restrained wood maturation, and a classically elegant Pinot Noir profile. It offers enough fruit and softness for easy enjoyment while retaining the floral, savory, and structured qualities that make mountain-grown Pinot Noir distinctive.

Serve it slightly cool at approximately 60–64°F / 16–18°C. It pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, duck, pheasant, other game birds, and mature cheeses.
