Domaine du Clos Saint-Martin Sancerre by Isabelle et Pierre Clément is a precise, mineral-driven Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc from a steep hillside near Amigny, just below the village of Sancerre. The current 2025 vintage is crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown on the region’s distinctive caillottes—stony limestone and clay soils. Fermented with ambient yeasts and matured entirely in stainless steel, it delivers grapefruit, white peach, citrus, melon, flinty minerality, and a saline finish with excellent freshness and length. The 2025 vintage is bottled at approximately 14% ABV in a 750ml format.

Process & Profile

Domaine du Clos Saint-Martin is part of the Clément family’s historic winegrowing estate, whose roots in the Centre-Loire date back to 1560. Today, the family farms both Domaine de Châtenoy in Menetou-Salon and Domaine du Clos Saint-Martin in Sancerre, with both estates certified organic.

The Sancerre vineyard lies near the hamlet of Amigny on an exceptionally steep slope, with some sections approaching 40% gradient. The soils are dominated by highly stony caillottes, a limestone-rich terroir that drains rapidly and is particularly well suited to producing fine, mineral Sauvignon Blanc.

The wine comes from 40+ year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines and is fermented using ambient indigenous yeasts. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, helping preserve its natural acidity, citrus freshness, and mineral tension. Fermentation and maturation take place entirely in stainless-steel tanks, with no oak influence.

In the glass, Clos Saint-Martin opens with expressive aromas of grapefruit, white peach, melon, lemon and fresh citrus, accompanied by subtle floral and mineral notes. The limestone-rich soils contribute a distinctive flinty, stony character that gives the wine additional complexity beyond its fresh fruit.

The palate is crisp, focused, and beautifully balanced, with lively citrus acidity running through peach, grapefruit, and melon flavors. A fine saline line gives the wine precision and energy, while the ripe 2025 fruit adds enough weight to keep the wine from feeling austere.

The finish is long and persistent, carrying citrus zest, white stone fruit, flint, chalk, and saline minerality. The combination of mature vines, stainless-steel vinification, and no malolactic fermentation preserves a distinctly pure expression of Sancerre terroir.

What makes Domaine du Clos Saint-Martin Sancerre particularly compelling is its combination of single-hillside fruit, mature Sauvignon Blanc vines, steep caillottes terroir, organic farming, indigenous-yeast fermentation, and completely unoaked maturation. The style is focused on terroir and freshness rather than winemaking influence.

The 2025 vintage received a Silver Medal at the 2026 Concours Général Agricole de Paris, adding notable recognition to the current release.

Serve well chilled at approximately 8–12°C / 46–54°F. It pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, crab, seafood, fresh goat cheese, asparagus, salads, and lightly spiced dishes. Classic Loire goat cheeses are an especially natural pairing.
