Is Ketel One good for a martini?
It is the bartender's default, and ours. In a drink as bare as a martini you want a vodka with just enough character to hold a stem without asserting itself, and Ketel One sits exactly there — crisp, clean, with real texture. Ketel One or Grey Goose?
Different targets. Ketel One is crisper and drier with a slight peppery snap — the better mixing vodka and the better value. Grey Goose Vodka is softer and rounder with more weight on the palate — the better neat pour and the smoother martini. For a dirty martini we would take Ketel One; for a bone-dry martini served very cold, Grey Goose.
Can I drink Ketel One neat?
Yes, and it is designed for it — the Dutch drink genever and vodka neat and very cold as a matter of course. Keep the bottle in the freezer and pour it into a chilled glass. You will find more going on than the word 'vodka' usually implies: a little citrus, a little white pepper, a clean finish.
