Process & Profile

Alma Del Jaguar Tequila Blanco is meticulously crafted at the esteemed Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados distillery (NOM 1414) in the highlands of Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico. Each bottle is produced from 100% blue Weber agave, grown at an elevation of approximately 6,800 feet, which imparts a distinct terroir-driven character. The agave piñas are slow-cooked for 54 hours in traditional brick ovens, then gently pressed using a single pass through a roller mill. Fermentation harnesses a dual-yeast approach: 80% wild yeast and 20% Champagne yeast, both in open-air tanks while classical music plays in the background. The spirit is then double-distilled in copper pot stills and bottled unfiltered by hand, preserving its full flavor and mouthfeel.

Frequently asked questions about Alma Del Jaguar Tequila Blanco

Is Alma del Jaguar additive-free?
Alma del Jaguar is produced as a 100% blue Weber agave tequila without the additives Mexican regulation permits at up to 1% by volume — glycerin, caramel colouring, oak extract and sugar-based syrup. That matters more than the percentage suggests: in a blanco, those additives exist specifically to imitate texture and age the spirit does not have. We explain how to verify this for any bottle, including how to read the NOM number that identifies the distillery, in our guide to reading a tequila back label.
What does a blanco tequila actually taste like, compared to a reposado?
A blanco goes into the bottle unaged or nearly so, which means what you taste is the agave itself plus whatever fermentation and distillation contributed — cooked agave, white pepper, citrus peel, a mineral or saline edge in highlands examples like this one. A reposado has spent at least two months in oak, which adds vanilla and softens the edges but also veils some of that agave character. If you want to taste what the plant actually tastes like, a blanco is the honest bottle. Compare it directly against La Gritona Tequila Reposado ($49.99) to hear the difference.
What is the conservation angle?
Alma del Jaguar was founded around jaguar habitat protection in northern Mexico, with a share of every bottle directed to conservation work supporting the species' remaining range and the wildlife corridors that connect it. The jaguar on the label is not decoration. It is the reason the brand exists, and it is one of the few genuine give-back stories in a category full of celebrity launches.
How should I drink it?
Neat, at room temperature, in a small tulip glass or a clay copita — never a shot glass, which funnels alcohol vapour straight up your nose and none of the aroma. If it reads hot, add water one drop at a time. It also makes an excellent Paloma or Ranch Water, though at this price point you are paying for nuance a mixer will partly cover. For batch cocktails, El Jimador Tequila Blanco ($29.99) does the job for a third of the money.
What else should I buy alongside it?
Two bottles turn this into an education. El Tesoro Tequila Blanco ($69.99) is tahona-crushed at La Alteña, NOM 1139, Camarena family since 1937 — the clearest demonstration of what old-method production does to agave. Monte Alban Mezcal ($29.99) brings in the smoke and a different agave species entirely. Browse the full range at Tequila & Mezcal or the smoky end at Mezcal.
How long does an open bottle last?
Unaged agave spirits are stable. At 40% ABV and with no sugar to spoil, an open bottle of blanco will hold its character for a year or more if you keep the cap on, keep it upright, and keep it out of direct sun and heat. What actually degrades it is a half-empty bottle left standing for years — the larger the air gap, the faster the delicate top notes oxidise away. If a bottle is down to its last third, drink it within a few months.
