Mars Tsunuki Japanese Peated Single Malt Whisky captivates with its lightly peated profile (6-7 ppm), born from the humid subtropical climate of Kagoshima's Mars Tsunuki Distillery, where 4-7 year-old malts aged in new Spanish oak, ex-bourbon, and sherry casks yield a bold, fruity explosion of strawberry jam, orange zest, red bean pastry, bitter chocolate, black tea, and juicy blackberry. This limited-edition gem balances gentle campfire smoke and tannic depth with vibrant citrus and pastry cream notes, delivering a full-bodied Japanese single malt that's richer and more experimental than its cooler-climate siblings. Whisky lovers crave it for its harmonious smoke-sweet complexity, non-chill filtered purity at 50-51% ABV, and rare terroir-driven elegance—perfect for sipping neat or in a highball.

Mars Tsunuki Peated Single Malt Whisky is crafted at the Mars Tsunuki Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan, established in 2016 by Hombo Shuzo. Distilled in 2016-2017 using peated malt (20-50 ppm) and high-quality spring water from the Kurata mountains, it matures 3-4 years primarily in ex-bourbon barrels with some sherry influence, bottled at 50% ABV. The humid, temperature-fluctuating climate of southern Kagoshima imparts bold character distinct from the cooler Mars Shinshu site.

Smoked maple syrup, wet campfire, and dried apricot mingle with sweet bourbon notes, honey, pears, apples, and subtle peat.

Prominent peat unfolds with sandalwood, pleasant sweetness, softness, vanilla, crisp green apple, fresh mint, buttered banana, and subtle saltiness.

Drying and medium-long with browned butter, stemmy herbs, wet gravel, menthol, bitter oak, and lingering sweet smoky yellow fruit.

This second release from Tsunuki (limited to around 2,100-15,000 bottles) showcases the distillery's bold, powerful style, blending varied peat levels for complexity akin to a peated Highland Scotch yet uniquely Japanese. The bottle's label artfully symbolizes Kagoshima's ridgelines and Nagano's Alps, reflecting Mars Whisky's diverse terroirs. Its youthful vibrancy captures the essence of Tsunuki's humid basin maturation.
