Process & Profile

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is born from the masterful hands of Wild Turkey's legendary father-son distiller duo, Jimmy and Eddie Russell. It starts with a single bourbon mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, combined with pristine, limestone-filtered Kentucky River water. Aged in new American oak barrels with a No. 4 alligator char, the barrels rest in the “center cut” rickhouse floors, where the consistent temperatures yield optimal aging conditions. Each single barrel is non-chill filtered and bottled at 110 proof, preserving maximum flavor and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel delivers a sensory feast from start to finish:
  • Nose: A rich bouquet of vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar, with accents of toasted oak, nuts, and baking spices like cinnamon.
  • Palate: Full-bodied flavors of creamy toffee, vanilla, licorice, and bursts of dark cherry combine with bold rye spice and charred oak.
  • Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering sweet spice, oak tannins, and hints of malt.
The 110-proof bottling ensures every sip is a bold and intense experience, yet it remains balanced and approachable.

What Makes It Special

What sets Russell's Reserve Single Barrel apart is its dedication to quality and individuality:
  • Single Barrel Uniqueness: Each barrel is individually bottled, ensuring a unique flavor profile while maintaining the brand's signature toffee and vanilla tones.
  • Non-Chill Filtration: This avoids removing fatty acids and flavor compounds, resulting in a richer, deeper taste.
  • Expert Craftsmanship: Over 100 years of combined distillation expertise from the Russells goes into every bottle, marrying tradition with precision.
This bourbon is not only a celebration of fine craftsmanship but also a tribute to Wild Turkey's heritage in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

How to Enjoy

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon can be relished in various ways:
  • Neat: Appreciate the intense flavor complexity and full-bodied character without dilution.
  • With Water: Add a few drops of water to open up the intricate aromas and soften the bold heat.
  • On the Rocks: Chilled and slightly diluted, the bourbon's spices and sweetness evolve elegantly.
  • Pairings: Complement your bourbon with rich foods like smoked meats, aged cheeses, or desserts like pecan pie. It also pairs superbly with a fine cigar for a luxurious experience.

Why You'll Love It

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Russell's Reserve Single Barrel unique?

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is crafted in the heart of Kentucky using a single barrel of whiskey, which means each bottle offers a unique flavor profile. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 110 proof to preserve maximum flavor. The bourbon is aged in deeply charred (No. 4 alligator char) American oak barrels, giving it rich and robust notes of toffee, vanilla, and oak with a spicy intensity.

What is the mash bill of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel?

The mash bill consists of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, which is standard for Wild Turkey bourbons. This blend contributes to its sweet and slightly spicy flavor profile.

Is there an age statement for Russell's Reserve Single Barrel?

While there is no official age statement on the bottle, the bourbon is typically aged between 8 and 10 years, ensuring a rich, mature flavor.

What does "non-chill filtered" mean, and why is that significant?

Non-chill filtration means the bourbon is not filtered at cold temperatures to remove fatty acids and other elements. This process retains more flavor compounds, giving the whiskey a fuller and more complex taste. However, it may appear cloudy when chilled, though this does not affect the flavor.

What are the tasting notes for Russell's Reserve Single Barrel?

This bourbon offers a nose of vanilla, toffee, and orange peel, with a palate of caramel, spice, oak, and subtle citrus. The finish is long and rich, featuring notes of charred oak, baking spices, and hints of licorice.

How should Russell's Reserve Single Barrel be served?

This bourbon is versatile and can be enjoyed neat, with a splash of water, or on the rocks. It is also a great choice for classic bourbon cocktails, though its robust flavor profile shines best when sipped straight.

Is Russell's Reserve Single Barrel suitable for bourbon collectors?

Absolutely. Its small-batch, single-barrel production ensures every bottle is unique, making it a prized choice for bourbon enthusiasts. Its high proof and non-chill filtered nature also appeal to those seeking a purer bourbon experience.

Does it contain additives or artificial flavors?

No, as a Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel adheres to strict regulations. It does not contain added flavors, colors, or blending materials, providing an authentic bourbon experience.

What is the price of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel?

The recommended retail price for this bourbon typically ranges between $50 and $65, offering excellent value for its quality and craftsmanship.

Where is Russell's Reserve Single Barrel made?

It is distilled and bottled by Wild Turkey Distilling Co. in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, a distillery known for its commitment to traditional bourbon-making techniques.

    Excellent bourbon value

I have tasted plenty of bourbons that cost twice as much as RRSB, but most of them don't taste better and some of them pale in comparison. This is infinitely shippable bourbon. Very smooth considering the high proof and it has a heavy mouth feel. Absolutely delicious.
