Cincoro Anejo Tequila

Cincoro is a premium tequila brand launched in 2019 by five NBA franchise owners — Michael Jordan (Charlotte Hornets), Wes Edens (Milwaukee Bucks), Wyc Grousbeck (Boston Celtics), Jeanie Buss (Los Angeles Lakers), and Emilia Fazzalari. Don't dismiss it as a celebrity bottle: the brand sourced its agave from both highland and lowland estates, partnered with the Camarena family at the Tequilas El Pandillo distillery in Jalisco, and earned a 96-point score from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for the Añejo expression. It's a serious tequila with a celebrity-backed origin story — not the other way around.

Cincoro Añejo is aged 24–28 months in former American whiskey barrels — well past the one-year minimum for añejo classification and approaching the two-year extra añejo cutoff. The result is a deep amber spirit with caramel, dried apricot, cocoa, and toasted oak on the nose; a velvety palate of vanilla, baked apple, dark honey, and roasted agave; and a long, smooth, slightly peppery finish. It drinks more like a great Cognac than a typical añejo, with the agave still clearly present.

Neat, in a tulip glass or copita at room temperature, with no ice. The barrel-aging and price point ($138.09) make this a sipping bottle, not a cocktail base. A few drops of room-temperature water can open the aromatics if you find it tight on first pour. Cincoro Añejo ($138.09) and Don Julio 1942 ($159.99) sit at similar price points and target similar occasions — special-occasion sipping, a "wow" gift bottle, the centerpiece of a tequila tasting. Don Julio 1942 is sweeter, more vanilla-and-caramel-driven, with a softer mouthfeel — a crowd-pleaser. Cincoro Añejo is more structured, more cocoa-and-tobacco, with a slightly drier finish — for the drinker who wants tequila that has aged like Cognac. Both are excellent; pick by palate preference.

Cincoro Reposado ($108.09) is aged 8–10 months and walks a beautiful line between blanco brightness and oak-driven structure. Cincoro Añejo ($138.09) is aged 24–28 months for the rich, dried-fruit, oak-and-cocoa profile described above. Cincoro Tequila Extra Anejo ($1,698.09) is aged 40–44 months in a combination of new and used American whiskey barrels — an extraordinary, scarce ultra-premium spirit produced in tiny quantities.
